MLB Awards

Now that we are full thrust in to the MLB Postseason, we can now decide on which superstars will take home some of the prestigious awards given to deserving players.

AL MVP - Miguel Cabrera

Cabrera has not received a lot of attention this season due to the incredible play of ace Justin Verlander, but as usual Miguel Cabrera simply tore it up. The All-Star 1B led the AL in batting average, hitting for a remarkable .344, and 201 hits. Cabrera also did his usual damage in the power category, knocking in 105 runs while hitting 30 homers.

2. Jacoby Ellsbury - .321 BA, 105 RBI

3. Curtis Granderson - AL High 119 RBI, 41 HR

NL MVP - Ryan Braun

The vote for MVP of the Brewers themselves, will be a tough decision, but I think Braun is the man. If it weren't for Jose Reyes, who took himself out of the game after bunting for a single to allow himself to win the batting crown, Ryan Braun likely would have ended up leading the NL in batting average. But instead finished 2nd, hitting .332 with 187 hits. Braun, widely known as a great contact hitter, displayed his power this season, hitting 33 home runs, tied for 6th in the NL. Braun also had 33 steals, gaining acceptance in to the prestigious 30/30 club.

2. Matt Kemp - NL High 126 RBI, NL High 39 HR

3. Prince Fielder - 38 HR, 120 RBI

AL Cy Young - Justin Verlander

This is the easiest award to pick because Verlander is the clear choice to win Cy Young. I would expect Verlander to either win in a landslide vote, or in a unanimous vote. Justin Verlander won 5 more games than any other pitcher in the AL, winning 24 games while only losing 5. Verlander also ended up winning a triple crown, leading the AL with a 2.40 ERA. The All-Star pitcher also led the AL with 250 strikeouts. Verlander also had a streak in which he won 12 straight starts, a remarkable accomplishment for a great player.

2. Jered Weaver - 18 Wins, 2.41 ERA

3. James Shields - 225 SO, 11 CG

NL Cy Young - Clayton Kershaw

Kershaw showed that he was ready to become one the elite pitchers in baseball, having an incredible season at such a young age. Clayton Kershaw tied for NL lead with 21 wins and a 2.28 ERA. Kershaw, as well as Verlander, won the triple crown in the NL, leading the NL by striking out 248 batters. It is also remarkable that Kershaw got the number of wins that he did, considering the bats of the Dodgers. I would expect that Clayton Kershaw will keep improving as his career continues and ultimately become one of baseball's best pitchers.

2. Ian Kennedy - 21 Wins, 2.88 ERA

3. Cliff Lee - 238 SO, 2.40 ERA
