MLB's Best Pitchers

Over the years, the MLB has become a pitcher's game. Pitchers are dominating hitting right now, and if you don't have an ace of your pitching staff, then chances are that your team isn't doing very well right now. I take a look at the 5 best pitchers in baseball.

1. Roy Halladay(PHI) - Halladay has not been the best pitcher this season, but over his career he has proven that he is as consistent a pitcher as any. Last season he tied for the league lead with a remarkable 21 wins, also throwing 2 no-hitters, one of them being a perfect game. He has followed that up with another strong season in which he already has 11 wins and already striking out 138 batters. Halladay is in serious contention to win his 2nd consecutive Cy Young Award.

2. Justin Verlander(DET) - Verlander started his year off very well, throwing a no-hitter against the Blue Jays. From there he continued to pitch well, Verlander has 12 wins this season which are 2nd most in the American League. Justin Verlander is leading the AL in strikeouts also with 147. His ERA is second to only Jered Weaver allowing an average of about 2 runs per game.

3. CC Sabathia(NYY) - Sabathia gets a lot of run support from his offense, which is why he is not higher on this list. However you can't deny the numbers and Sabathia's are some of the very best. He currently leads the majors with 13 wins, and is 4th in the AL with 126 strikeouts. Sabathia also won the most games last season, along with Roy Halladay. So he is definitely a proven winner.

4. David Price(TB) - Price definitely had a better season last year, but he also had a better team last year. David Price was a candidate for Cy Young last season after winning 19 games and striking out 188 batters. Price has won only 8 games this year, but he is one of the main reasons that the Tampa Bay Rays are in contention.

5. Jered Weaver(LAA) - Weaver has had a tremendous year, posting the lowest ERA in all of baseball at 1.86. The reason that Weaver was not higher was because he has not been very consistent, losing 12 games last year. Losing has not been common to Weaver this year, as he was the first pitcher to get to 6 wins in the majors. Jered Weaver will be starting for the American League in the All-Star Game.
